2024 EVENT ITINERARY


On October 12-13, we will be voyaging from Lahaina, Maui, across the 'Au'au channel to Manele Bay, Lana'i, camping overnight, and voyaging back, a 36-mile roundtrip journey with 25 canoes and over 450 cancer survivors and supporters.

Tentative Itinerary for Paddle for Life

ThuRSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2024

Join us for the final pre-launch meeting where we will cover all the last-minute details to ensure a smooth and successful voyage. This is an important opportunity for paddlers to:

  • Receive essential information about parking and launch procedures

  • Get detailed itinerary updates

  • Drop off their bags for escort boats

  • Obtain parking permits

  • Address any final questions or concerns

Please make sure to attend this meeting to be fully prepared for the Paddle for Life event. More information on time and location to come. Your participation is crucial for a coordinated and safe journey.


SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2024

Early Morning:

5:00 AM - 6:00 AM: Escort boat riders arrive at designated harbors to meet their escort boat captains.

  • Lahaina Harbor is closed. Please avoid this area.

  • Coordinate escort boat riders to meet at either Mala Harbor (if open) or Hanakaoʻo Beach Park (Canoe Beach).

  • Escort boats will meet the crew, and canoes can shuttle the escort boat crew out to the escort boats before launch (if needed).

6:00 AM - 7:00 AM: First paddling crew arrives in at Hanakao’o Beach Park in Lahaina.

  • Prepare canoes for launch, add photos and leis to the canoes.

  • Canoes shuttle escort boat riders out to escort boat (if needed).

6:30 AM: Blessing Ceremony.

  • Traditional Hawaiian blessing to ensure a safe and meaningful journey.

7:00 AM: First Paddling Crew Launches.

  • Begin the voyage across the 'Au'au channel to Manele Bay, Lana'i.

Morning - Early Afternoon:

  • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Canoe and escort boat journey.

    • Scheduled water changes and paddler rotations.

    • Ensure all safety protocols are followed.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Arrival at Manele Bay, Lana'i.

  • Set up camp and unload gear.

  • Ensure all participants are accounted for and settled.

Afternoon - Evening:

  • 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Community Activities and Cultural Engagement.

    • Participate in traditional Hawaiian ceremonies, chants, and community outreach activities.

    • Explore Lana’i City and support the local businesses and restaurants.

5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Dinner.

  • Group meal and fellowship time.

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Evening Program.

  • Inspirational talks, sharing survivor stories, and entertainment.

8:00 PM: Lights Out.

  • Prepare for an early start the next day.


SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2024

Early Morning:

5:00 AM - 6:00 AM: Wake-Up and Breakfast.

  • Light breakfast and preparation for the return journey.

6:00 AM - 6:30 AM: Break Camp.

  • Pack up gear and prepare canoes for departure.

6:30 AM - 7:00 AM: Morning Blessing.

  • Brief ceremony to start the day and bless the return voyage.

7:00 AM: Launch for Return Voyage.

  • Begin the journey back to Lahaina.

Morning - Early Afternoon:

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Canoe and escort boat journey.

  • Scheduled water changes and paddler rotations.

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Arrival at Hanakao’o Beach Park.

  • Unload gear and breakdown canoes.

  • To-Go Lunch provided upon arrival.

  • Final words of gratitude and sharing of experiences.
